Among the fewer than 300 examples of Patek Philippe repeating split seconds pocket watches, only 1/3 are equipped with a minute register. This function seems quite easy to achieve, in fact it required a sophisticated re-design of both the entire chronograph system and mainspring power transmission path. Patek Philippe designed to use the same horizontal clutch mechanism for controlling the chronograph function to the minute register, which means it embedded a second nearly complete chronograph mechanism into the movement. This allowed the chronograph system and the minute count system to remain independent of each other when not in operation, which significantly improved the overall stability of the movement.
