Patek Philippe is at the very top of manufacturing minute repeating watches today, with few other brands able to rival its tone and volume. In fact, as early as the pocket watch era nearly half a century ago, Patek Philippe had already established its dominant position in striking watches.
In the 1920s, the Art Deco period, frequent innovations in design were accompanied by using new materials. Platinum, previously were used for ladies' pendant watches, then began to be used in gentlemen's formal pocket watches as well. Patek Philippe minute repeating pocket watches were usually cased in yellow or pink gold; apart from extremely rare examples in silver and white gold, platinum cases are the rarest of all.
To our best knowledge, fewer than 25 Patek Philippe platinum minute repeating pocket watches are known to exist to this day. These pieces often bear with personalised engravings or carry the stories of their original owners, which undoubtedly proving the bespoke nature of every platinum minute repeating pocket watch.
