Dial: silvered dial signed Cartier France, BTE S.G.D.G. (Breveté sans garantie du Gouvernment), stretched black radial Roman numerals, baguette-form chemin-de-fer minute track

Case: platinum rectangular case, rose-cut diamond-set bezel
Case number: case back interior hand stamped 5’431, 43, outside case back with rubbed hand stamped numbers and etched HSA 1108, underside of pendant lug hand numbered 5923
Closure: black silk moiré ribbon-form necklace with two sliding belt-buckle design motifs, secured with a platinum clasp

Accessories: Cartier Certificate of Authenticity No. GE2001-251 dated 11 January 2002, confirming production in 1913 and noting a total of 143 rose-cut diamonds and 4 old European-cut diamonds
During the 1910s, Cartier produced a series of elegant platinum and diamond pendant watches, setting a new standard for luxury timepieces that also influenced their early wristwatch designs. Indeed, models like the one shown here were also created in wristwatch versions, with brooch-form lugs duplicated to form attachments for a wrist strap at each end of the case. These watches showcased Cartier’s distinctive monochromatic palette, black and white tones often paired with moiré fabric straps, clean lines and geometric forms, a style that would become even more prominent as the Art Deco movement gathered momentum.
