First introduced in the late 1980s, the Rolex Daytona Reference 16518 marked a pivotal evolution in the lineage of the iconic chronograph. Cased in yellow gold and traditionally fitted with a leather strap, the 16518 was powered by the calibre 4030 automatic movement, based on the famed Zenith El Primero, making it one of the celebrated "Zenith Daytonas" produced between 1988 and 2000. These were the first self-winding Daytonas and ushered in a new era of modernity for Rolex’s flagship chronograph.
Fitted with a white dial and contrasting chronograph registers, this example epitomizes the Daytona’s perfect balance of elegance and functionality. Its 40 mm case, screw-down crown and pushers, and refined finishing highlight Rolex’s mastery in producing a durable yet sophisticated chronograph.
