Produced between 1965 and 1969, the reference 6241 is both rare and highly desirable, particularly in its “Paul Newman” configuration—named after the actor and racing driver who famously wore such models.

A few years after introducing the celebrated 6239, Rolex expanded its chronograph line with the 6241, distinguished by its black acrylic bezel offered alongside the steel-bezel Daytona. While the case remained unchanged, the darker bezel enhanced the watch’s visual presence and offered greater variety to collectors.

Initially overlooked, both the 6239 and 6241 have since become icons of vintage Rolex. Today, examples fitted with “Paul Newman” dials—such as the present “black-on-black” configuration—are among the most striking and sought-after variations.

This particular example was recently discovered in a private European collection. Kept away for decades, the watch has been preserved in beautiful condition. The deep black color of the main plate contrasts with the vibrant red of the Daytona signature and outer scale, as well as with the clear white subsidiary counters and outer ring. The lume plots are all present and reacting consistently under UV light. The case features its original bezel and is completed by the revered 7835 bracelet with 271 endlinks and the clasp stamped 68.

Appearing for the first time on the market, this piece is a most exciting opportunity for a collector looking for an attractive example of the legendary Rolex Daytona Paul Newman.
