The Portugieser Perpetual Calendar remains one of IWC’s most successful modern complications, combining Kurt Klaus’ mechanically programmed perpetual calendar system with the expansive dial architecture of the Portugieser line. Unlike traditional perpetual calendars requiring multiple recessed correctors, the entire calendar may be advanced through the crown alone, a construction that became a defining technical signature for IWC.
The present reference IW34407 is distinguished by its rich metallic green sunburst dial. The symmetrical calendar layout, featuring date, day, month, leap year and moon phases, is framed within the restrained geometry of the Portugieser case, while applied Arabic numerals and feuille hands preserve the collection’s characteristic clarity despite the complexity of the display.
Visible through the sapphire crystal display back, the automatic calibre C82650 incorporates IWC’s Pellaton winding system with ceramic components engineered for durability and efficiency. Contemporary in execution yet rooted in one of the manufacture’s most recognisable complications, the present watch exemplifies IWC’s longstanding emphasis on mechanical practicality and legibility.
