Created for MB&F’s tenth anniversary, the HMX was conceived as a driver’s watch, displaying bi-directional jumping hours and trailing minutes laterally through optical prisms rather than on a conventional dial. The movement architecture is deliberately automotive in character, with the visible upper section recalling a supercar engine beneath a sapphire crystal cover.
Executed in titanium, the present “Black Badger Edition”, dating to circa 2018, develops this concept through luminous material by James Thompson, known as Black Badger. The time is indicated by rotating discs reflected and magnified through sapphire prisms, while the luminescent treatment illuminates the engine compartment and gives the watch much of its identity in low light.
