Property from a European Family.

A distinguished French engraver, chaser and medallist, Louis Rault first trained in wood carving in his father's workshop. At the age of fourteen, he began an apprenticeship with an engraver, marking the beginning of a remarkable career. At the same time, he attended drawing and modelling classes, which opened the doors of the House of Boucheron to him, where he was appointed as a chaser in 1868.

Throughout his career, he received numerous distinctions, including the gold medal awarded to the collaborators of the House of Boucheron at the 1889 Exposition Universelle.

The present lot is a remarkable example of Louis Rault’s work, showcasing both his exceptional mastery of materials and the refined inventiveness of his ornamental repertoire.

Today, his creations are preserved and exhibited in some of the world's leading museums, notably the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the British Museum in London.
