the body of polished gold, the upper section formed in the shape of a heart, the surface covered in translucent pink enamel over wavy engine-turning, surmounted by a ribbon-tied column with cabochon chrysoprase finial, struck to body with maker's mark, 56 standard, in a fitted Wartski case,

Born near Moscow, Ivan Savelevich Brtizin was a Russian craftsman who trained in St Petersburg, possibly under Fabergé. He went on to open his own workshop, specialising in enamel. The quality of his output affording him an international reputation, being especially popular in London; between 1900 and 1917 Britzin exported a range of goods to Britain and America.
