“Rather than adopt the popular technique of composing realistic paintings by stitching together detailed sections, I chose to work holistically. Using transparent washes as a foundation, I layered gradually, adjusting and refining the composition throughout the process to maintain a sense of rhythm and unity. As the details deepened, I continually rebalanced the structure of the image. In the final stages, I applied opaque white to the windows and highlights—echoing techniques used by watercolor masters over a century ago.” – Chung-Wei Chien
