“This portrait was painted during my studies in Florence, Italy, where the model sat for seven sittings. Drawing inspiration from Van Dyck's 1627 portrait of Peeter Stevens, particularly the depth and intensity of gaze captured in his eyes, I sought to evoke a similar sense of character and presence. The work was made entirely from life, using the sight-size method, under natural light, and to life scale. Marco Zamburru was painted at Charles H. Cecil Studios where I received my formal training and continue to work on my practice whilst teaching the new students.” – Olivia Arts
