The Carousel was created using traditional oil painting methods to echo the depth and luminosity of Flemish masters. Its gilded elements — applied in delicate relief on the halo and wings — recall the sacred glow of Renaissance icons.

The work is both a personal homage and a narrative vision. In January 2022, I finally saw Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s The Fall of the Rebel Angels in Brussels. The encounter was overwhelming: its frenetic energy, its profusion of figures, and its timeless power resonated deeply. In that moment, the mythic carousel from American Gods unfurled before my eyes, with Wednesday, Shadow, Czernobog, and Anansi caught in a mad celestial waltz among their shifting avatars. The painting seeks to capture that delirious momentum: a timeless dance between myth, chaos, and revelation.” – Yoann Lossel
