Purchased on 31 August 1812 by Prince Antoine de Bourbon of Spain (1755-1817);

Sold on 31 August 1812 to Prince Antonio de Bourbon of Spain (1755-1817) for 1,200 francs.

The son of King Charles III of Spain, he was born in Caserta and held the titles of Prince of Spain and Royal Prince of Naples. Appointed head of the Supreme Governing Junta during the Napoleonic Wars, he went into exile at the Château de Valençay, hosted by the Prince de Talleyrand, during the Peninsular War (1808-1814); it was during this period that he purchased our clock.

Our clock is recorded in the Breguet archives for a complete revision carried out in 1872 for "Count d'Ezpeleta, 10 avenue du Roi de Rome, Paris."

Count Antoine d'Ezpeleta (1837-1909) served as aide-de-camp to General Billot and was a renowned fencer; he was the subject of a portrait by the painter Carolus-Duran, now held at the musée du Petit Palais (inv. PPP582).

A certificate from the maison Breguet will be provided to the buyer.
