Qinqishuhua, often translated as the “Four Accomplishments” or “Four Arts” of the Chinese literati, refer respectively to the guqin zither (guqin), the game of go (weiqi), calligraphy, and painting. Mastery of these pursuits was traditionally regarded as the hallmark of the cultivated scholar-gentleman and an expression of artistic refinement, intellectual discipline, and moral character.
