Acquired from an English Private Estate in Bergerac, France.
In his landscapes, as well as in his depictions of earth and water, Lin Fengmian was equally concerned with the realistic rendering of atmospheric phenomena, a subject particularly cherished by the painters of Impressionism. By adapting the techniques of oil painting to the interplay of light between the dark tonalities of water and sky, he succeeded in creating a compelling sense of distance and depth.
