Executed circa 1953 - 1960.

54 x 46.7 cm, 21¼ by 18⅜ in.

This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the Association des Amis d'Alix Aymé.

This work belongs to a series developed in numerous variations, devoted to female portraits of an intimate character, at times imbued with a spiritual or religious dimension.

Following her stay in Florence in 1952 — where Alix Aymé exhibited at the Galleria Strozzina — her work reveals a marked influence from the compositions and themes of the Italian Renaissance. This inspiration is particularly evident in the recurring use of backgrounds decorated with arcade motifs enhanced with gold leaf. The artist’s signature appears within a small gilt cartouche integrated into the composition.
