Two Gold-Mounted Opal Matrix Snuff Boxes, Paris or Vienna, Late 18th Century

the first, Paris, oval, the lid and base formed of one panel of opal matrix, the sides inlaid with squares of the same material, the reeded mounts chased with floral elements alternating with scrolls, small applied rose-gold thumbpiece, Paris leaf contremarque and small later control mark, 3 ⅜ in., 8.5 cm. wide;

the second, possibly Vienna, cut-cornered rectangular, the opal matrix body mounted in rose gold decorated with foliate engraving and applied with a yellow gold scrollwork thumbpiece, apparently unmarked
