cut-cornered rectangular, all sides decorated with concentric engine-turning framed by interlaced bands around scrolls alternating with flowerheads on a sablé ground, the interior of the lid later engraved with a presentation inscription reading: 'Les Précieuses ridicules' / 28 Janvier 1910,

Ignaz Joseph Schmidt was the son of the goldsmith Joseph Wolfgang Schmidt (1769-1811), with whom he worked between 1802 and 1811. Schmidt the younger seems to have been active as court jeweller in Vienna until 1836.
