L.J. Pristo, Martelé, Gorham’s Nouveau Art Silver, 2002, p. 221

According to Larry Pristo's book on Martelé, this piece was completed November 20, 1900 and had a net factory price of $144. The maker is not listed, however the making time is registered as 42 hours. The chasing then took another 54.5 hours and was done by Herbert C. Lloyd.

The tazza was part of an extensive 30-piece dinner service (the coding ranges from 4715-4744) produced in the wake of Gorham's success at the 1900 Paris World's Fair. The service included meat dishes, centerpieces, bonbon dishes, bread trays, bottle stands, a pair of seven-light candelabra, and candlesticks.

A vegetable tureen and cover from the service, numbered 4717, was sold Christie's, New York, 18 January 2019, lot 841. A 22 inch platter, numbered 4728, was sold Potomack Company, Alexandria, Virginia, 6 April 2023, lot 1209. A pair of candlesticks, numbered 4737, was sold from the Wolf family collection, Sotheby's New York, 20 April 2023, lot 538.
