Description

the tapered slightly baluster-shaped sides, the lid and the base painted with reserves of bouquets of roses, forget-me-nots, peonies and other flowers against pale mauve background, the partially pierced gold ground engraved with zig-zag bands and painted with raised blue and pale pink enamel flowers interspersed with dark green basse-taille enamel leaves, the lid surmounted with a gold suspension loop, the interior fitted with implements including a tortoiseshell piqué folding knife, a pair of gold-mounted steel scissors, a gold pencil holder, a gold-mounted bodkin, a tongue scraper etc., the ivory writing slips now missing, apparently unmarked
