Description

Very Very Old Fitzgerald 12 Year Old 100 Proof 1953

Distilled in Spring 1953, bottled in Spring 1965 at Stitzel-Weller Distillery, top and bottom of back label torn, original label denotes bonded 100 Proof but export stamp denotes 90 proof, export tax strip is nicked and faded

Old Fitzgerald was the flagship brand of Stitzel-Weller Distillery, led by Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle. The whiskey came in a variety of ages. While under his management, 'Pappy' Van Winkle refused to bottle Old Fitzgerald at anything less than the domestic requirement of 100 proof set out by the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. The Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 made it illegal to label any spirit bonded if it was aged past 8 years.
