Description

Very Very Old Fitzgerald 12 Year Old 100 Proof 1952

Distilled Spring 1952, bottled Fall 1965 at Stitzel-Weller Distillery, includes original velvet bag and carton, Maryland tax stamp adhered to shoulder, neck label and tax strip are slightly faded, original carton is damaged

Old Fitzgerald was the flagship brand of Stitzel-Weller Distillery, led by Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle. The whiskey came in a variety of ages. While under his management, 'Pappy' Van Winkle refused to bottle Old Fitzgerald at anything less than the domestic requirement of 100 proof set out by the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. The Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 made it illegal to label any spirit bonded if it was aged past 8 years.
