the pierced backrest decorated with interlacing patterns, a bouquet of wheat in a wicker basket and a mask of Apollo at the bottom, with a caned horseshoe-shaped seat surrounded by multiple mouldings, resting on tapered and fluted legs, the back of the frieze with an inscription in black ink: ‘Ha...’ (probably for Hameau)

This chair most likely belongs to the set of four chairs delivered by Georges Jacob for the Queen’s private Garde-Meuble, intended for the boudoir of the Hameau of Marie-Antoinette at Versailles;
This set of four chairs very probably corresponds to lot 256 in the revolutionary sale of the furniture of the Château de Versailles on August 28 1793;
