[APOLLO 13]

FLOWN Apollo 13 Beta Cloth, SIGNED and INSCRIBED BY THE APOLLO 13 LM CREW of LOVELL and HAISE, approximately 7 by 7 inches, with a 4-inch Apollo 13 mission emblem printed at the center. Certified flown by Fred Haise with: “Flown to the moon on Apollo 13, FRED HASIE, Apollo 13 LMP” below the emblem. Additionally SIGNED and INSCRIBED by the Apollo 13 Commander with: “JAMES LOVELL, Apollo 13 CDR.”

AN APOLLO 13 FLOWN MISSION EMBLEM, SIGNED BY THE CREW MEANT TO LAND ON THE LUNAR SURFACE BEFORE THE FATEFUL EXPLOSION.

Apollo 13 was intended to be the third mission to land humans on the Moon, but plans were thwarted when a Command Service Module oxygen tank exploded 210,000 miles from Earth, vented the contents of both oxygen tanks, and suddenly changed the mission objective from lunar landing to survival. The crew moved from the CSM Odyssey into the Lunar Module Aquarius, using it as a lifeboat in order to survive a four-day journey around the Moon and return to Earth. The NASA mission control staff and the contractor team worked around the clock to develop an alternate flight plan to return the crew to Earth safely despite seemingly insurmountable challenges. The mission stands out as a paragon of teamwork and first-class training.
