Description
NIKE, NIKE AIR FORCE 1, SIZE 11
Rubber, Leather, Cotton, Synthetic
2005
In 2005, 12ozProphet released the coffee table book Also Known As (aka) and collaborated with Nike to produce a highly limited sneaker developed in Tinker Hatfield’s Nike Innovation Kitchen. The Nike Air Force 1 ‘AKA’ reinterpreted the graffiti tags of Crude Oil, featured on the book’s cover, and only 48 pairs of the white-and-gold sneaker were produced and distributed to key cultural figures, creatives, and the 12ozProphet and Nike teams. Graffiti icons including Futura, Kaws, Stash, and Jeff Staple were among this select circle, and the model was featured in a 2005 Forbes article as one of the most expensive sneaker releases for men at the time. Today, the Nike Air Force 1 ‘AKA’ remains one of the most coveted and celebrated collaborations in sneaker culture, prized for its rarity, iconic design, and deep connection to graffiti history.
12ozProphet is a New York-based graffiti magazine, streetwear brand, and creative agency dedicated to urban street art. The project began in the mid-1990s as a school fanzine at the Rhode Island School of Design, rooted in graffiti subculture with subtle nods to art, design, fashion, and popular culture. As the internet matured, 12ozProphet evolved into a major online community long before social media, and in recent years has expanded into apparel while retaining its focus on creative exploration and community engagement. The lessons and networks cultivated through 12ozProphet continue to inform other ventures, including a world-class screen printing operation under 12ozCollective.
