Description
Tulsa Assembly Center Concert Poster, ca. January 28, 1969
22 3/8 x 14 1/8 in. Lithograph concert poster. Printed in black and green on card stock by Globe Poster, Baltimore. Slight browning to edges; two small pieces of tape to lower margin.
James Brown and his Revue performed several times in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the ’60s. This poster from 1969 was possibly meant to mitigate tension by advertising “A show for the entire family!” after an earlier concert in 1966 had played out like a scene from “Footloose” — extra police had been stationed at that concert, and, as the Tulsa Tribune proclaimed at the time, “No dancing will be allowed.”
