Launched in 2012, only 100 examples of the Panerai ‘Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Ceramica’ were produced. The domed crystal and display back provide a clear view of the hand-wound mechanical P.2005/B caliber movement, an impressive sight with many of its parts galvanically blackened to perfectly complement the black ceramic case. The tourbillon, with its unusual 30-second rotation instead of the more common one-minute rotation, creates a visually compelling high-precision movement. Its presence is further emphasized by a mirrored plate on the underside of the movement, allowing the user to observe the rotation of the tourbillon carriage from all angles.

While the tourbillon is only visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the wearer can track its timing through a series of dots positioned at the 9 o'clock subsidiary dial, which also features the running seconds. This hand is connected to the tourbillon, causing the dots to move twice as fast as the seconds hand. Moreover, the central GMT hand is accompanied by an AM/PM indicator for the second time zone positioned at 3 o’clock. An impressive power reserve of 6 days is provided by three mainspring barrels, with the corresponding power reserve indicator placed on the movement.

Panerai’s Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Ceramica strikes a harmonious balance between technical innovation and stylistic appeal. The oversized case, made from synthetic ceramic based zirconium powder, offers a uniform matte finish that is highly resistant to scratches and wear. With its modern all-black design accented by cream-colored numerals, this watch embodies the essence of Panerai. The present example, numbered 54 of 100, is in excellent condition and is a pleasure to behold, showcasing both its strong modern aesthetic and technical prowess.
