Originally launched in 2006 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, reference 5711 was a tribute to the original “Jumbo,” reference 3700. Maintaining the iconic 42mm case design but modernized with the addition of a central seconds hand, the 5711 swiftly became a modern icon. Waiting lists extended for years, and demand far exceeded supply until well after the model’s eventual discontinuation in early 2021.
Between 2010 and 2013, Patek Philippe introduced what is arguably the most exclusive and opulent version of the 5711: a series of platinum-set gem models, never listed in the official catalog and reserved strictly for the brand’s most important clients. Believed to be limited to fewer than ten examples per variation, these were produced with four distinct bezels:
• 5711/110P with diamonds
• 5711/111P with sapphires
• 5711/112P with rubies
• 5711/113P with emeralds
The present example, reference 5711/111P, is one of these elusive sapphire-set pieces. It features an invisible-set bezel with 32 baguette-cut sapphires, matched by 12 sapphire baguette hour markers on the iconic black dial. At 6 o’clock on the bezel sits a flawless diamond—discreet yet telling. It is a signature detail that Patek Philippe reserves exclusively for timepieces cased in platinum.
Cased in solid platinum and powered by the automatic caliber 324 S C, this ultra-exclusive reference fuses high-jewelry craftsmanship with one of the most coveted luxury sports watch designs of all time. Rarely seen in public and almost never appearing at auction, the 5711/111P is a grail among grails—one of the purest expressions of understated, exclusive luxury in modern horology.
