Patek Philippe’s Reference 130 holds a significant place in the brand’s history as its first chronograph to be produced in series. Revered as one of the most iconic and recognizable vintage chronographs ever created by the manufacture, the model was in production from 1936 to 1964. Over nearly three decades, its design evolved—from early executions with a single pusher to later iterations featuring two pushers. While most examples were cased in yellow gold, a smaller number were made in pink gold and stainless steel. Notably, the Reference 130 is also one of the most stylistically diverse chronograph models produced by Patek Philippe, with a wide array of dial variations ranging from sector designs to pulsation scales.
The present watch is a superb example, fitted with the highly desirable silvered two-tone sector dial. It features applied steel hour markers and a tachymeter scale—all confirmed by the Extract from the Archives. Sector dials were a brief but iconic trend, primarily found on watches from the latter half of the 1930s. According to the Extract, this piece was manufactured in 1947, placing it near the end of Patek Philippe’s use of the long-form signature before transitioning to the short signature.
Adding to its rarity and appeal, the stainless steel case—crafted by Dubois—offers a subtle yet distinct departure from the gold variants. It features slightly thicker, shorter lugs and a larger 33.5 mm diameter, lending the watch a more modern, sporty, and robust presence on the wrist. The combination of its rarity, striking two-tone silvered sector dial, and stainless steel case makes this a truly exceptional collector’s piece.
