In 1994, A. Lange & Söhne was reintroduced to the world with four foundational models—three of which continue to form the backbone of the brand’s collection today. Among them, it was the Lange 1 that truly stole the spotlight. With its off-centered main dial, offset subsidiary seconds, power reserve indicator, and signature big date display, the Lange 1 offered a bold, asymmetric design unlike anything else on the market.

Introduced in 2003, the reference 115.031 represents the Grand Lange 1—an evolution of the original, housed in an upsized case measuring just under 42mm, with proportionally enlarged sub-dials. This particular example features a striking black and anthracite dial that echoes the brand’s distinctive design language. Signature alpha hands, applied rose gold hour markers, Roman numerals at the cardinal points, and a rose gold-framed date window all contribute to its unmistakable Lange aesthetic.

Despite the increased dial size, the overlapping sub-dials maintain clear legibility and visual harmony. Turning the watch over reveals the beautifully finished caliber L901.2, showcasing the brand’s hallmark ¾ plate in untreated German silver adorned with Glashütte stripes, along with a hand-engraved swan neck micrometer regulator.
