Patek Philippe's expertise in world time wristwatches and cloisonné enamel dials can be traced back to their reference 1415 from the 1940s, which featured a variety of beautifully executed cloisonné enamel dials. This model was later succeeded by the reference 2523, which served as an inspiration for the case design of the present timepiece.
The reference 5231 is an updated version of the reference 5131, featuring a larger bezel and faceted lugs that are reminiscent of the 2523 in every way.
