The Reference 3668 stands as one of Rolex's earliest Oyster chronographs, alongside the celebrated and highly sought-after Reference 3525. Though often illustrated in horological literature, this model is exceptionally scarce on the open market. What distinguishes the 3668 from its counterpart is its distinctive precious metal bezel, with surfaced examples exclusively fitted with either pink or yellow gold bezels.
Though these early chronographs failed to gain widespread popularity among contemporary buyers, their historical significance is undeniable and has made them extremely collectible in the present day. With an estimated production of merely thirty examples, the 3668 remains one of the rarest and most intriguing references in Rolex's storied chronology.
In recent years, only a select few examples of Reference 3668 have emerged on the market, with even fewer preserved in honest and attractive condition like the present lot, with tasty rose coloured dial complimenting the case metal perfectly and bursting with vintage flavour. The case is in exceptional crisp condition and the original dial is incredibly attractive.
