Though once underappreciated in the horological world, Van Cleef & Arpels has since certainly proven their prowess in creating beautiful watches with tastefully integrated complications, with the retrograde mechanism being one of the brand’s most prolific. The present wristwatch is a perfect example of this, with a complex double retrograde on-demand timetelling display. The Ballerina remains motionless unless the 7 o’clock pusher is activated, after which the two wings of her dress will move to indicate the time along the scales. After a short pause, they return to her side. Despite the impressive complication, it is very well integrated and makes for a very elegant and discreet wear. The dress and dial are further beautifully crafted out of enamel, another testament to the technical artistry at work within this wonderful timepiece.
