“These objects are presences. The presence might be something which is beyond signification, certainly beyond any kind of justification. Almost not needing any drawing, these objects are of extreme simplicity. To me, simplifying is proposing to hold meaning, proposing forms which might not be completely filled, loaded with meaning. Thus, I remain silent. I stand in front of these presences, in a peaceful position which would not be that of their drawing’s author. As the very tiny character who stands backwards to the sea, in the middle of Caspar Friederich’s painting. As for the title, Ignotus nomen, it explicitly indicates that this series bears a name, but a name which has not come to us yet, which is still and maybe forever, unknown.” (Pierre Charpin, mars 2011)
