Acquired directly from the artist as a gift in 2015 by the present owner.
The artist, Winfred Rembert, was a dear friend of the current owner of this pocketbook and visited Winfred frequently in his studio, keeping Winfred company and observing him while he worked. Winfred was a proud supporter of President Barack Obama and purportedly made this rare pocketbook for First Lady, Michelle Obama, while she was in office with her husband in 2012. According to Winfred and the current owner, Michelle Obama was unable to accept personal gifts while in office and thus, the pocketbook remained with Winfred for several years. The current owner loved this pocketbook so much that Winfred gifted him the piece in 2015.
