The Cartier Tank Basculante has appeared in several iterations since its debut in 1932. Its cabriolet mechanism allows the wearer to rotate the case, protecting the dial while exposing the reverse. When left in its extended position, the watch can even serve as a small desk clock. Owing to the complexity of its case construction, early production was limited. In the 1990s, Cartier resumed manufacturing the model in greater numbers, bringing the design to a wider audience. It remains one of the maison’s most distinctive creations and a piece sought after by discerning collectors.

The current 18k yellow gold example hails from the 1990s and features a well maintained case with light signs of wear commensurate with age and use.
