Sir Edwin Hardy Amies (b. July 17th 1909- d. 5th March 2003) was a British fashion designer and Royal Warrant holder as dressmaker to Queen Elizabeth II. Based at 14 Saville Row, Amies was known for his fine tailoring. During the post-war years, his popularity grew as clients craved luxuriously cut clothes, having been deprived during the war years. Hardy Amies is quoted: 'A woman's day clothes must look equally good at Salisbury Station as the Ritz Bar'.
