Charles James for Samuel Winston Cocktail Ensemble, 1952-53, comprising silk velvet corset and chestnut taffeta skirt beaded and sequinned with foliate trails and velvet leaves, stiffened petticoats beneath, labelled and with hand written 'Brodericle', bust: 34 in, 86 cm, waist: 22 in, 56 cm
Samuel Winston was a New York retailer who hired famed couturier Charles James in 1952 to create 30 designs each year. The partnership ended acrimoniously. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds an identical skirt within their collection, accession number 2013.360.
