divided into rectangular reserves enamelled with simulated moss agate inclusions on a translucent pink ground, within pale bead and green foliate borders on a sablé ground, one side with a later applied chased gold ornament, surmounted by a rose-cut diamond, struck to mount with Fabergé in Cyrillic, workmaster's initials, 72 standard, french import mark


length of handle 11 cm; 4 1/4 in.

length with knife attachment 24 cm; 9 1/2 in.



A continuous source of inspiration for Fabergé and his craftsmen were 18th century gold boxes made in Paris. The enamelled surface simulating moss-agate was a popular design motif in Paris circa 1778, made fashionable by important goldsmiths such as Joseph-Étienne Blerzy.
