the first, elongated oval shape, all sides decorated with chevron engine-turning within engraved arrowhead and chased foliate borders, the sides with chased flowerhead dividers on a sablé ground,

maker’s mark, Paris 3eme titre 1838-1847,

9.4cm., 3 5/8 in. wide; the second, circular, the lid centred with an enamel medallion painted with three en grisaille putti holding attributes of the harvest, against a bright pink ground, surrounded by chased foliate borders and a polished gold ground, the sides and base decorated en suite, wood-lined interior,

partially rubbed maker’s mark ?R, charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre, rubbed date letter,

in a silk-lined fitted red leather case, with a hand-written letter, 7.5cm., 3 in. diameter
