A granite and micromosaic snuff box with silver-gilt mounts, Luigi Mascelli, Rome, circa 1820

The view of Paestum is freely based on Aloja Vincenzo's engraving Veduta de' Tempi di Pesto presa da ponente after Luigi Fergola, published by Nicola Gervasi (active 1790-1804) in Naples in 1804. For another version of this view, see a gold box by Andreas Markel, Vienna, set with a micromosaic plaque, in the David Iakobachvili Collection (Haydn Williams, 19^th-Century Snuffboxes: The David and Mikhail Iakobachvili Collection, vol II, London, 2025, p. 301).
