The Lapie family of Parisian cabinetmakers were active in the Rue de Charenton during the second half of the eighteenth century, and the stamp is most likely that of Nicolas-Alexandre Lapie, known as Lapie l'Aîné (c.1730-1775), maître in 1764, but may also be that of his younger brother Jean (b.1734), maître in 1762, or his cousin Jean-François Lapie (1720-1797 ), maître in 1763.
