The HAduP monogram is likely that of Henry Algernon Du Pont (1838-1926), a member of the affluent family that prospered in the gunpowder, automobile, and chemical product industries. Du Pont was educated at the University of Pennsylvania and later graduated first in his class from West Point. He soon began his successful military career, in which he received the Medal of Honor and the title Chief of Artillery. Upon his military retirement in 1879, Du Pont became president of the Wilmington & Northern Railroad Company and was later elected to the Delaware Senate, where he served through six Congresses.
