The Shackleton–Rowett Expedition, or the Quest Expedition, is seen as the last of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. The Quest was a converted Norwegian sealing boat. It soon proved inadequate for the demanding Antarctic seas; she leaked, she was slow, and she guzzled fuel. Indeed, the trip was to prove resoundingly ill-omened — Shackleton had a sudden heart attack aboard the ship before the expedition work had begun. Frank Wild took over command and Shackleton was buried on South Georgia, the island across which he had heroically trekked to rescue his crew during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914-1917.
