Folding engraved frontispiece map; gift inscription to blank endpaper, map linen-backed and browned, occasional light spotting, long vertical tear to p. 35 of the second part, a few other marginal tears. Twentieth-century half-green morocco over cloth, spine gilt in compartments, marbled endpapers; spine faded, lightly rubbed.
First American edition of the classic account of the first crossing of the continent north of Mexico by a European (see preceding lot).
