Large lithographed map (1,015 x 505 mm), after W.H. Fawekner, mounted on linen and dissected to fold into a contemporary, probably original, green cloth portfolio; minor toning. Publisher's textured green cloth-covered boards, paper label to spine with manuscript title, marbled endpapers; some rubbing and soiling.
The first chart to show McClure's discovery of the Northwest Passage.
“In 1853 [Inglefield] went again to the Arctic in the Phoenix with relief to Sir Edward Belcher, and in October brought home the news of the discovery of the north-west passage by Robert John Le Mesurier McClure, for which he was promoted captain on 7 October 1853” (ODNB).
