Description

[Apollo 8]

"The Good Earth"

Large color photograph, 20 x 20 inches, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Commander FRANK BORMAN in gold ink: "'The Good Earth' / Frank Borman / Apollo 8 CDR / 21-27 December 1968"

Frank Borman, as Commander of Apollo 8, was one of the first people to see this view of Earth in person. While previous missions had taken humans into space, none prior to Apollo 8 had taken humans beyond low Earth orbit. Here, his inscription references the end of the crew's transmission to Earth from the Moon on Christmas Day, 1968: "And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a merry Christmas, and God bless all of you — all of you on the good Earth."
