This atmospheric sketch is closely comparable in style to various leaves from the sketchbooks that Waterloo used during his journey to Hamburg and other parts of north Germany, in around 1660.1 The last sheets from these sketchbooks to appear on the market were two sold from the Van Regteren Altena collection, in 2015.2
