Description

Tapering cylindrical form, the foot and stem chased with grotesque masks amongst fruit, foliage and scrollwork, the body embossed and chased with townscapes in three oval reserves surrounded by scrolling strapwork, the underside of the body engraved with a coat-of-arms and the monogram 'AB'.

Before 1939 in the collection of the present owners’ family at their residence in Munich;

Georg Weigang (1904-1978) collection, Berlin Grünewald;

thence by descent to the present owners.  

The cup can be seen on the left-hand side of a photo taken in the 1960s at the house of Georg Weigang.
