Signed and dated 1650, this charming panel by Pieter Hermansz. Verelst depicts the quaint interior of a seventeenth-century Dutch schoolroom. Best known for his tronies, peasant interiors, and contemporary genre scenes, Verelst catered to a growing class of middle-class patrons with an appetite for familiar scenes of everyday life.
